Compact Licensure Update

Posted by [email protected] on 10/06/2025 8:33 am

UPDATED INFO:

To PAMSS Members:
In follow-up to recent communications sent regarding the licenses for physicians being inactivated and reissued designated as a Compact License (with a C), I have just been notified by our Government Relations Office that the Medical Board Commissioner issued the following statement: “We will stop adding a “C” to the Med/Osteo Compact licenses in late December 2025. The licenses will be issued similar to Nurse Compact licenses.”
While the change is not occurring immediately, this should reduce the burden on our systems.
Thank you.

To PAMSS Members – Compact Licensure Update:

I recently reported the State Boards of Medicine & Osteopathic process for physicians applying for a Compact License in Pennsylvania has resulted in their original license number being “inactivated” and a new license issued with a “C” following the original number.

Today our own system has confirmed 20 physicians who have Compact License status for which we have had to update our records, reverify, report to Enrollment and obtain new malpractice facesheets.  We did identify one physician had a supervising agreement attached to their original number.  I have confirmed, thankfully, that the supervising and/or collaborative agreements should NOT be affected by the change in license number.

I encourage you to submit your comments or concerns directly to HAP or your Government Relations office outlining the effects on your own reporting systems (enrollment, malpractice, etc).  At this time, we have not had any indication that the State is willing to consider a different method of documentation rather than changing the license number.

Thank you.
